Anton og lakridsmysteriet is a new Intellectual Digital Experience (IDE) – App with the goal of teaching children how to get an understanding of dementia.
Anton og lakridsmysteriet is developed by Huusmann Media in collaboration with Demens Centrum Aarhus. The IDE-App is intended as a learning tool for children, as Demens Centrum Aarhus feel that children are left out in discussions of Dementia. But it is equally important that children understand what is happening, why their grandparents are acting weird, what they can do to help and how they can avoid dementia themselves.
“The children are rarely thought of in cases of dementia. But, that is a mistake. Partly because they experience that something is wrong, the same way their parents do, when a grandparent is hit by dementia, but they don´t always get their questions answered.” Demensvidensportalen explains on their page about Anton og Lakridsmysteriet. The goal of Anton og Lakridsmysteriet is to start a conversation between the children and their parents.
In the game we follow Anton, a curious kid who asks questions when he´s confronted with mysteries and who plays detective whenever the mysteries seem unsolvable. Anton is the mediator between the child perspective of the world and the adult understanding world. These two perspectives might be very different, but by using Anton, the concept of dementia can be explored and simplified in a way so that children get a better grasp of what it is.
The learning process happens through a simple detective story, told through the relationship between Anton and his grandfather. This helps to make the concept of Dementia more tangible and relatable for the child, while keeping it cheerful.
The books take a positive outlook and focuses on how you can help to improve the life quality of people with dementia and how you can avoid getting the illness in the future. It teaches children to keep their minds active, to be social, to excercise, to be healthy and to spread this knowledge to everyone they know.
