Seriously is Finnish Game Developer of The Year

The newly formed games studio, Seriously, which is made up of hardened veterans from the Finnish games industry, snags up the title as this years Finnish Game Developer

It’s probably no easy feat to follow in the footsteps of some of the biggest successes in the Nordic Games Industry, such as Rovio or Supercell. But there was no complaining on the part of Finnish game developer Seriously, as they were singled out as the country’s developer of the year, during the recent DigiExpo  in the Helsinki Expo and Convention Center.

“To follow in the footsteps of Rovio and Supercell in receiving the ‘Finnish Game Developer of the Year’ award is definitely a big honor and something to be proud of,”  co-founders Andrew Stalbow and Petri Jarvilehto told Nordic Game Bits. But even if previous Finnish developers of the year have since become some of the biggest names in the whole Nordic region, it’s hard not to already be impressed by what Seriously has been able to achieve in a single year.

In the past year, we launched the company, brought together some of the world’s best talent, found great investors to support us, developed and launched Best Fiends, and reached 1,000,000 downloads in the first week

And according to them, there is more to come. “We feel this is only the beginning.” But Seriously also has an impressive game development pedigree, with people from other top developers such as Remedy, Digital Chocolate, Rovio and Recoil Games among the staff, which may explain the rapid development and deployment of their first game, Best Fiends.

In their reasoning for choosing Seriously as the developer of the year, the jury, who is made up of members of Neogames Finland ry and FIGMA ry, said the following:

“Seriously is not only an excellent game studio but also a fine example of second-round start-up boom which is also an indication of the maturity of the Finnish game industry. Its early stage funding, international relations, an expert team of professionals and quickly released first game are typical characteristics of these second-round start-ups. Game development and succeeding at the game markets is never easy but as the industry grows older and developers gain experience, we can expect more start-ups with strong professional base such as Seriously that have a great chance to succeed.”

Despite having just won the Finnish Game Developer of the year award, Seriously has no plans to slow down in the future. “Our focus is to continue building entertainment properties with great games at its core and connect with audiences of all ages for years and years to come, ” says Andrew Stalbow and Petri Jarvilehto.
