The Best Articles of 2014

With 2014 coming to a close, we have decided here at Nordic Game Bits to take a look back at the most popular articles we published during the year, and cherry pick the five best of the year, in our own little impromptu high-score list.

So without further ado, let us start our countdown of the five most popular articles on Nordic Game Bits of 2014.

 

No. 5 – Kiloo Named Danish Growth Company of The Year

In fifth place we find the story about how the publisher and now co-developer of the huge mobile success Subway Surfers, Kiloo, managed to grab the title as Danish Growth Company of the Year, with a growth of over 2000 % the last three years.

But the article also brings a few concerns to the table, as when Sunstone Capital’s Nikolaj Nyholm complains that he believes that the original solo developers of Subway Surfers, SYBO Games, deserves the award just as much as Kiloo.

 

No 4. – Will a Conference Stand Save Your Greenlight?

In fourth place is indie developer Reign Bros. and their story about how they got their game, Stikbold!, through Steam’s Greenlight process. In the article, they candidly show how the numbers behind the scenes had been affected by conferences, press coverage, and activity on social media.

No. 3. – Supernauts Sees 50,000 Videos Shared on Everyplay

In the third spot on the high-score list of 2014 is the story about how Supernauts from Finnish Grand Cru Games managed to get 50 000 videos from their game posted on the mobile video service, Everyplay.

In the article, you can read about how grand Cru Games built Supernauts from the ground up with video sharing element integrated into core elements of the gameplay.

 

No. 2. – List of EU Funding for Game Devs in 2014 and 2015

Everybody likes money, right? Number two on the list seem to confirm that theory, as the list of possible EU grants and funding turned out to be the second-most popular article on Nordic Game Bits in 2014.

And since the list covers funding opportunities in both 2014 and 2015, there’s no reason why you shouldn’t drop by and have a look, if you haven’t read the article yet, as most of the opportunities are still eligible.

The most popular article of 2014 was the 18 great tips from Thomas H. Lund of Full Control, and Tim Shephard from Chroma Studios on how you negotiate with partners, investors and publishers, that they gave out during a Growing Games workshop.

The tips still apply, so you might want to give the list of tips a look, if you’re heading to the negotiating table anytime soon.
