Rovio is joining forces with the LEGO Group to create sets based on the popular Angry Birds series and the birds will also hit the big screen.
When Angry Bids came out in 2009, it was a great hit with mobile gamers all over the world, making Angry Birds the most downloaded mobile game ever. The interest in the battles between the birds and their pig counterparts have since quited down a bit, with sales dropping 73 per cent last year.
Last week, Rovio announced a new collaboration that should help the Finnish developer get back on top: Angry Birds are getting their own line of LEGOs.
“The LEGO brand has an unparalleled ability to connect with people through products that spark creativity and imagination. We’re really excited to build experiences together with this amazing best-in-class partner,” says Pekka Rantala, Chief Executive Officer of Rovio, in a press release.
Right now, the details about the upcoming LEGO sets are scarce, but Jill Wilfert, Vice President of licensing & entertainment at the LEGO Group, is looking forward to the collaboration:
“We are excited to bring Angry Birds to life in LEGO form, given the popularity of the game and its characters with fans of all ages,” she says.
The LEGO sets will launch alongside an Angry Birds movie, set to be released in the spring of 2016.
